Volkswagen Launches Assembly Plant in Uzbekistan to Target CIS and Caucasus Markets

19:00 - 20.06.2026

June 20, Fineko/abc.az. German automotive manufacturing giant Volkswagen has officially inaugurated a new vehicle assembly facility in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan.

According to ABC.AZ, the high-profile opening ceremony was personally attended by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during the latter's official state visit.

Core Industrial and Macro Vectors:

  • Production Methodology: During its primary phase, the plant will process vehicle output via SKD (Semi-Knocked-Down) assembly architecture. The industrial roadmap calls for a transition into full-scale, deeply localized manufacturing cycles over the coming years, focusing on a premium selection of Volkswagen's high-demand models.

  • Geographical Export Footprint: The new enterprise is structurally positioned to anchor Uzbekistan's domestic auto market while serving as an export hub targeting Central Asia, the CIS, and the South Caucasus sub-regions.

  • Uzbekistan's Automotive Output Metrics: The inclusion of Volkswagen expands Uzbekistan's active manufacturing portfolio to 7 corporate brands, which currently lists Chevrolet, KIA, Hyundai, Chery, Haval, and BYD. Notably, Uzbekistan's aggregate automotive manufacturing volume reached 457,000 units in fiscal year 2025.
