Hungary sharply reduces salaries of PM and MPs

June 10, Fineko/abc.az. The Hungarian parliament has unanimously approved a bill on a large-scale reduction in salaries and administrative expenses of the country's top leadership, members of the government and MPs.

ABC.AZ informs that as part of budget optimization measures, Prime Minister Peter Magyar's salary will be cut by more than 50%, from 7.8 million forints (€21,667) to 3.8 million forints (€10,556) per month.

The main thing from the release:

Reduction of civil servants' incomes: The base salaries of most members of Parliament and heads of factions will decrease by 40% and amount to approx. €3,690 before taxes.

Cancellation of benefits: The law completely cancels compensation for mobile communication expenses for parliamentarians, as well as significantly reduces the limits on office rentals, office housing, and personal assistants.

The purpose of the reform: According to the PM, the funds saved by the political state apparatus are equivalent to the full annual cost of maintaining the parliament, which will help stabilize public finances.
