Three African countries join forces to supply 30 bcm of gas to Europe, bypassing Russia

June 9, Fineko/abc.az. Nigeria, Niger and Algeria have stepped up a large-scale project of Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) designed to supply up to 30 bcm of natural gas a year to the European market. The initiative aims to become one of the alternative energy sources in the context of curtailing EU's dependence on Russian fuel.

ABC.AZ reports that construction work on the future route of the gas pipeline has already started in Algeria. This has become an important practical stage in a multi-year plan to transport Nigerian raw materials through Niger to European consumers.

The 4,128-km route will connect Nigeria's gas fields with the Algerian gas transportation system, which will supply fuel directly to European countries. Despite Brussels' high hopes of replacing Russian gas with African gas, analysts emphasize that it will take a long time before the project is fully implemented and commercial supplies actually begin.
