EU to Name Countries Hosting Return Hubs for Deported Migrants by Autumn

20:20 - 5.06.2026

June 5, Fineko/abc.az. The European Union (EU) aims to identify the countries that will host dedicated return hubs (camps) for deported migrants by this autumn.

ABC.AZ reports that this was announced by the Dutch Minister for Migration and Asylum, Bart van den Brink, in an interview with Euractiv.

Key details of the project:

  • Relocation: Under the proposed scheme, migrants whose asylum applications have been rejected within the EU will be transferred to these specialized external centers.

  • Indefinite stay: Rejected asylum seekers will be permitted to remain in these return hubs for an indefinite period.

According to the minister, this initiative represents a pivotal step in the EU's broader strategy to tighten migration policy and streamline the deportation process.
