June 2, Fineko/abc.az. US energy giant ExxonMobil has expressed interest in exploring the potential of Azerbaijan's unconventional hydrocarbon resources.

ABC.AZ reported that ExxonMobil Vice President for Global Exploration John Ardill said this during the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

He added that ExxonMobil is a 145-year-old corporation that covers all areas of hydrocarbon development.

«One of the key reasons we are here today is to discuss a range of ideas, and in the previous discussion the topic of unconventional resources was already raised. Why are they so important? Why do we need to focus on them? And why are we looking at them specifically in the context of Azerbaijan?" he said.

Ardill emphasized that ExxonMobil is evaluating how to apply its extensive experience in unconventional resource development beyond traditional markets, including in other countries.

"When bringing these technologies to the international level, we focus on three main criteria: favorable geology, commercial viability, and a strong partnership model. This is exactly why ExxonMobil is here in Baku - to assess this potential in your country," he noted.
