May 25, Fineko/abc.az. The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts a large-scale structural shift in the global car market. According to the agency's estimates, in 2026, the share of electric vehicles in the total global fleet may reach 30%.
ABC.AZ informs with reference to the IEA, global sales of electric cars are expected to grow to 23 million vehicles this year. Last year alone, the market gained 20%, which means that a quarter of all new cars sold in the world were electric.
"Last year, sales of electric vehicles set new records in almost 100 countries. The growing popularity of electric cars has marked a major shift in the automotive markets and in the energy system as a whole. Now it brings some relief against the backdrop of the largest oil crisis in history," IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said.
China remains the main driver of the global transition to eco-friendly transport, accounting for almost 75% of global electric vehicle production.
