May 20, Fineko/abc.az. Annual transportation of nearly 100,000 passengers on railway route Baku–Tbilisi–Baku is planned,

ABC.AZ informs, quoting Azer Farajev, Head of the Passenger Transportation Department at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY).

He added that the restoration of passenger traffic on the Baku–Tbilisi–Baku railway route is an important event in terms of development of transport, tourism and interregional ties between the two countries: "It is planned to carry close to 100,000 passengers annually via the Baku–Tbilisi–Baku route."

Farajev also touched upon issues relating to the speed of the train and the duration of the trip: "In Georgia, the average train speed will be around 50 km/h. The comparatively low speed on the Gardabani–Tbilisi section is precisely due to the unsatisfactory state of the infrastructure in this area. The trains will cover the distance of 498 km from Baku to Boyuk-Kesik station in 6 hours and 10 minutes. Since the railway infrastructure in Azerbaijan has been updated, trains will be able to travel at average speed of 100 km/h," Farajev underlined.
