Kazakhstan to build three thermal power plants without Russia's participation

February 19, Fineko/abc.az. Construction of thermal power plants in Kokshetau, Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan is to be realized jointly with Chinese partners.

ABC.AZ informs, quoting Deputy Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Sungat Yessimkhanov, that Samruk-Energo has been entrusted with projects, and relevant investment agreements have already been signed with all subsidiaries. Within the projects, it is planned to create a consortium of companies, in which Chinese partners are expected to participate.

It was previously assumed that the construction of three thermal power plants would be carried out with the participation of Russia. In 2024, an intergovernmental agreement was signed between Russia and Kazakhstan. Inter RAO–Export was to implement the project from the Russian side, and Samruk-Energo from the Kazakh side.
