January 26, Fineko/abc.az. The EU Council has approved a complete ban on the supply of Russian LNG to the EU from January 1, 2027, and pipeline gas from September 30, 2027.

ABC.AZ informs that there will be a transition period for existing contracts.

This step-by-step approach will limit the impact on prices and markets. A complete ban on LNG imports will come into force from the beginning of 2027, and on pipeline gas imports from the fall of 2027.

Before allowing gas to be imported into the EU, EU countries check the country in which the gas was produced.

Failure to comply with the new rules may result in maximum fines of at least 2.5 million euros for individuals and at least 40 million euros for companies, at least 3.5% of company's overall annual turnover worldwide or 300% of the estimated transaction turnover.
