January 14, Fineko/abc.az. Igbal Guliyev, Dean of the MGIMO Faculty of Financial Economics, Doctor of Economics, believes that the conflict between the U.S. and Venezuela is not related to the fight against drug trafficking or the protection of human rights, but to the desire to control the country's strategic resources.
ABC.AZ informs that control of Venezuelan oil (reserves of more than 300 billion barrels) would allow the U.S. to strengthen its dominance in the Western Hemisphere and influence global energy prices, as well as weaken the position of China, which is the main buyer of Venezuelan oil.
Guliyev emphasizes that the problems of drug trafficking are exaggerated, and the real struggle is for access to raw materials and influence in the context of global competition. At the same time, the U.S. can ease some of the sanctions, and the Monroe Doctrine continues to ensure the security of the Western Hemisphere.
