U.S. to allocate $2.7 bn for independence from Russian uranium

January 6, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. Department of Energy will send $2.7 bn to American Centrifuge Operating, General Matter and Orano Federal Services to expand domestic uranium enrichment capacity over 10 years.

ABC.AZ informs that Energy Secretary Chris Wright emphasized that the program's goal is to restore nuclear fuel supply chains and reduce critical dependence on imports from Russia, which currently ensures nearly 25% of the needs of American nuclear power plants.

The Trump administration also plans to increase the strategic uranium reserve to ensure the country's energy security.
