Turkey aspires to become a gas hub for Europe

December 26, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey, capable of importing up to 80 bcm of natural gas a year with current consumption of 60 bcm, is developing infrastructure for gas exports and trade to Europe.

ABC.AZ reports, quoting Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, that the country already supplies gas to Syria and Nakhichevan, exports to Europe through Bulgaria and is considering Romania's request for 1 bcm a year. The main supplies are carried out in 14 directions, including gas pipelines from Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran.

Earlier, the idea of creating a gas hub in Turkey to redirect the transit of the Nord Stream was discussed, as well as opening a gas trading center with its own gas index in Istanbul.
