December 26, Fineko/abc.az. Russia has provided new financing for the construction of Turkey's first Akkuyu nuclear power plant in the amount of around $9 bn, ABC.AZ informs, quoting Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
"This source [of funding] is likely to be used in 2026-2027. In 2026 alone, Turkey will receive $4-5 bn in external financing through this channel," he said.
Bayraktar also confirmed Turkey's plans to launch the first reactor of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in 2026.
"2026 has been set as the target year when the first reactor will start producing electricity," the Turkish minister said.
The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units with Russian-designed VVER generation III+ reactors. The capacity of each NPP power unit will be 1,200 MW.
