December 8, Fineko/abc.az. Diesel fuel imported by Georgia from Azerbaijan may completely replace the volumes imported from Russia in the near future, ABC.AZ informs, quoting the head of the Union of Oil Importers Vakhtang Iobashvili.
According to Iobashvili, Azerbaijani diesel fuel meets the high-quality Euro-5 standard and is currently exported to Europe. Its demand in the Georgian market is also growing rapidly.
According to Geostat, in October 2025, Georgia imported 29,734 tons of diesel fuel and other fuel products from Azerbaijan for $20.035 million (352.3-fold versus last yera’s same term). In October of 2024, only 84.4 tons were imported. It is assumed that the reason for this growth is mainly related to diesel fuel.
Iobashvili believes that currently the demand for diesel from Azerbaijan has increased by 40% and will be even higher in the future.
The head of the Union of Oil Importers notes that the main advantage of importing diesel fuel from Azerbaijan is both the quality of products and the proximity of logistics. Thus, the Baku–Tbilisi route is shorter compared to Russia. This is ultimately reflected in transportation costs. On the other hand, the fuel quality was confirmed based on tests in Georgian laboratories for compliance with high standard Euro-5.
