October 20, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources in installed capacity to 38% by 2030.
ABC.AZ reports that this is stated in an article of Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, published in the official newspaper on the Day of the Power Engineer.
The minister noted that to this end, creation of an additional 700 MW of onshore and offshore capacity within the agreements signed with partners is also being considered from angle of ensuring integration capabilities and sustainability of the energy system: "In this area, we are cooperating with the Chinese Institute of Electric Power Planning and Engineering (EPPEI) in the field of electricity transmission network research. As part of the study, in order to determine technologically and economically optimal solutions for the transmission network, the potential demand for renewable energy sources will be assessed at the first stage, and the possibilities of integrating generating capacities into the network will be analyzed at the next stage."
Shahbazov noted that such a cautious and phased approach to development of renewable energy sources in order to meet domestic demand is manifestation of responsible position on energy security.
