Azerbaijan has the least water resources in South Caucasus

September 30, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan's water resources are many times smaller than in Georgia and Armenia.

ABC.AZ informs that deputy chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan Ilham Bayramov made the relevant statement at a press conference dedicated to the work done over the past 9 months.

"Azerbaijan's water resources amount to 26.2 bcm, Georgia's water resources are 4-fold larger – 108 bcm, and Armenia's water resources are 1.5-fold larger than ours - 40 bcm. Georgia and Armenia together have 148 bcm of water resources, which is 5.7-fold higher than Azerbaijan. Our country owns 15% of the water resources of the South Caucasus, Georgia - 62%, Armenia - 23%," he said.

The deputy chair added that Azerbaijan retains its advantage in the field of land suitable for agriculture:

"In our country, this figure is 4.6 million hectares, in Georgia - 3 million hectares, and in Armenia - 1.1 million hectares. Ultimately, the joint agricultural lands of Georgia and Armenia (4.1 million hectares) are smaller than those of Azerbaijan."
