Aghdam-Khankendi railway to be commissioned by end of 2026

September 26, Fineko/abc.az. By the end of 2026, it is planned to open both the Aghdam-Khankendi railway and the Khankendi railway and bus terminal complex.

ABC.AZ informs that Arif Aghayev, deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), made this statement at an event dedicated to the launch of passenger transportation on Ganja–Mingachevir–Aghstafa route.

He noted that the next project in Karabakh is related to the construction of the Aghdam-Khankendi railway.

"On July 3, 2025, President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation of the Khankendi railway and bus terminal complex. The design of the line has been completed. In addition, conceptual designs of Askeran and Khojaly stations are being prepared, and the design of the Khankendi railway and bus terminal complex has begun. Along with Karabakh, the railway infrastructure is being restored in the Eastern Zangezur economic region. 84 percent of the design work and 67 percent of the construction and installation work on the Goradiz-Agbend railway line have been completed," the deputy chairman stressed.
