This step contributes to the further development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport route.

In 2022, KazMunayGas (KMG) and SOCAR signed a general agreement on the transit of Kazakh oil.
In March 2024, KMG and SOCAR signed an agreement on a phased increase in oil transit through Azerbaijan. The document envisages an increase in supply volumes up to 2.2 million tons a year.
