December 27, Fineko/abc.az. The commissioning of the first reactor of Akkuyu NPP will cover about 2.5% of Turkey's electricity needs, ABC.AZ informs, quoting Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
"With the commissioning of the first reactor of Akkuyu NPP, it will generate 1,200 MW of electricity, which is approximately 2.5% of Turkey's electricity needs. The launch of all four reactors will cover 10% of Turkey's electricity needs from nuclear energy. This is especially important for ensuring the country's energy security and achieving climate goals," the minister said.
He added that the commissioning of the NPP will allow Turkey to reduce imports of about 7-7.5 bcm of gas a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 35 million tons. Earlier, the minister announced plans to commission the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP in 2025.
