October 21, Fineko/abc.az. Over Jan-Aug 2024, Azerbaiajn imported 36,705 tons of crude palm oil and its fractions for $42.995 million.
ABC.AZ reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee that compared with Jan-Aug 2023, this indicator increased in volume terms by 54%, or 12,887 tons, and in value terms by 46.6%, or $13.67 million. In the first 8 months of 2023, our country imported 23,818 tons of crude palm oil and its fractions for $29.3 million.
Azerbaijan imported 11,853 tons of palm oil from Malaysia and 24,851 tons from Indonesia.
Palm oil, which has been the main substitute for trans fats in production of margarine for the past 30 years, is widely used in the food industry, in particular by manufacturers of confectionery, ice cream, chocolate, and chips.
Palm oil is also widely used in production of margarine all over the world. In 8 months of this year, Azerbaiajn produced 30,645 tons of margarine and 857 tons of them were exported.
