GM to pay a fine of almost $146 million

July 4, Fineko/abc.az. A U.S. government investigation has identified excess emissions from approx. 5.9 million on General Motors (GM) vehicles.

ABC.AZ reports that the car manufacturer agreed to pay a fine of $145.8 million.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has indicated that GM will waive approx. 50 million metric tons of carbon credits after a multi-year investigation that found that cars from the 2012-2018 model years emitted 10% more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than stated in initial GMP compliance reports.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) separately announced that GM will pay a $145.8 million fine for fuel economy violations and cancel more than 30.6 million fuel economy credits to resolve the problems identified by the EPA.
