Hungary bought gas from Azerbaijan for the first time this year

June 5, Fineko/abc.az. Hungary continues to diversify supplies in order to reduce dependence on Russian gas.

ABC.AZ informs that Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade Peter Szijjarto made this statement during the Baku Energy Week.

According to the FM, annual gas consumption in the country is 9-10 bcm, including only 1.5 bcm are produced by Hungary itself. In order to reduce dependence on Russian gas, work has been carried out and is underway to purchase gas from Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Qatar.

The minister added that this year Hungary bought gas from Azerbaijan and Türkiye for the first time.

Szijjarto stressed that negotiations in Qatar are still ongoing, and an agreement in this area will be reached in the near future.
