October 4, Fineko/abc.az. Belgian startup Elia has presented Princess Elisabeth Island, a project on creation of the first artificial energy island in history.

ABC.AZ reports that the project received approval from environmentalists and all the necessary documents.

Construction of Princess Elisabeth Island will begin in March 2024. According to preliminary data, the island will be completed by 2026, and in 2030 the island will be connected to wind farms and to the mainland.

Princess Elisabeth Island is an artificial rectangular island that will connect marine wind turbines with the mainland of Belgium. The island will act as a hub for interconnections with the UK and Denmark.

A wind power plant (wind turbine) with capacity of 3.5 GW will be located near the island. Princess Elisabeth Island will be located in the North Sea, 45 km from the coast of Belgium.

Princess Elisabeth Island will receive energy from wind turbines via cables to convert it into electricity and distribute it throughout Belgium. The country promises to share with other EU countries.
