ABC.AZ reports that the reason is extension of the functionality of the application.

Therefore, it is possible to revise the official position on the work of the WhatsApp messenger on the territory of the Russian Federation.

This opinion was expressed by Anton Gorelkin, the first deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, when commenting on the launch of the channel creation function in WhatsApp.

"If the product of extremist company Meta begins to expand its functionality towards mass dissemination of information, the official position regarding its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation may be revised," Gorelkin wrote in his Telegram channel.

Facebook and Instagram, which also includes WhatsApp, have been blocked since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the territory of Russia.
