July 6, Fineko/abc.az. The Ministry of Ecology & Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has called the cause of mass fish loss in the shallow coastal waters of Gum Island in the Baku Bay of the Caspian Sea.

The Ministry informs that the staff of laboratory ‘Hydrobiology’ of the Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has established that it was the fry of sharp-nosed mullet and took samples for analysis.

"The results of the biological, morphological and physiological analysis did not reveal any infectious diseases or poisoning. The cause of the mortality case was the state of water, more precisely the reduction of the oxygen content in the water - 1.5-4.0 mg/l (norm: 6 mg/l). Thus, not the optimal environment has affected the fry of mullet," it was reported.
