July 6, Fineko/abc.az. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has not officially invited Azerbaijan to become a member of the organization, but is working over its expansion, ABC.AZ quotes OPEC Secretary General Haitham al-Ghais as stating this to journalists.

"I’ve visited Malaysia, Mexico, Brunei, Azerbaijan, but I am not saying that I invited them to become OPEC members. OPEC+ is an informal organization, it is an alliance about cooperation, and formally OPEC+ members are not OPEC members - Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, but they feel like OPEC members," he said.

The OPEC Secretary General added that OPEC interacts well with Azerbaijan and, in particular, with Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, who came to Vienna to participate in the seminar.

"I recently visited Azerbaijan, met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. We had an excellent dialogue not only about OPEC+, but also about further cooperation," he emphasized.
