May 17, Fineko/abc.az. Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar rejected the statement of the head of the EU Foreign Policy Service Josep Borrel that the EU may restrict the import of Indian petroleum products made from Russian oil.

ABC.AZ reports that in response, Jaishankar advised Borrel to familiarize himself with the rules of the EU Council.

"Look at the rules of the EU Council, Russian oil is significantly processed in third countries and is no longer considered Russian," Jaishankar said.

Borrel did not rule out on May 16 that the community may restrict the import of Indian petroleum products from Russian oil in order to tighten anti-Russian sanctions imposed because of the situation around Ukraine. The diplomat said this to newspaper Financial Times on the eve of a meeting with the Indian FM. In his opinion, India's purchase of oil from Russia is "normal," but the South Asian country should not, Borrel believes, become a "center for its processing" with subsequent sale to EU countries.
