Government's plan to combat traffic jams in Baku unveiled

April 5, Fineko/abc.az. Congestion in the capital and surrounding areas is steadily increasing. It seems that the transport system has become unmanageable. What measures is the government taking in this regard?

ABC.AZ reports that Deputy Minister of Digital Development & Transport Rahman Gummatov said that the growth of economic activity, as well as the transport needs of the population, causes the problem of congestion around the world, especially in large cities and economic centers:

"The average population density in Azerbaijan is about 92 people per sq km. In the Baku agglomeration, this figure is 840 people per sq km, and in the Absheron economic district - 400 people per sq km. For this reason, there is an increased population density in urban areas and on the roads of entry and exit from the city from year to year. Given the density of the population living on the Absheron Peninsula, including the city of Baku, and ensuring its mobility, there is a need to create an integrated transport system. Such a stable model of public transport regulation should be built so that both the needs of passengers are met and the interests of carriers are protected, and the quality and price of the services provided are acceptable to the population."
