January 13, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan's self-sufficiency in wheat is on average at the level of 59-60%, ABC.AZ reports citing Firdovsi Fikretzade, the director of the Center for Agricultural Research of the Ministry of Agriculture.

He noted that Azerbaijan produces an average of 2 million tons of wheat annually.

"Our country imports 1.3 - 1.4 million tons of wheat a year. Azerbaijan's self-sufficiency in wheat is on average at the level of 59-60%. This means that 40% of our demand for wheat is covered by imports. Wheat imports to Azerbaijan for flour are slightly more than 40%," the director said.
