Forecast: Recovery of oil demand to slow down temporarily due to coronavirus

15:33 - 14.12.2021

December 14, Fineko/abc.az. The new strain of Covid-19 coronavirus "omicron" will temporarily slow down, but will not affect the recovery of oil demand.

ABC.AZ informs that this is stated in the monthly report of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

According to forecasts, global oil demand will grow by 5.4 million b/d in 2021 and by another 3.3 million b/d next year, when it will increase up to a pre-pandemic value of 99.5 million b/d.

"The new containment measures introduced to stop the spread of the virus are likely to have weaker impact on the economy compared with previous waves of Covid-19, not least because of widespread vaccination campaigns. As a result, we expect that the demand for fuel for motor vehicles and raw materials for petrochemicals will continue to grow steadily," the IEA report says.

According to the report, the IEA increased the estimate of oil demand by the end of 2020 by 35,000 b/d up to 90.83 million b/d, for 2021 the estimate was reduced by 90,000 b/d to 96.19 million b/d, for 2022 the forecast reduction was 120,000 b/d to 99.53 million b/d.
