Criminal case initiated over Armenia`s missile strikes on BTC oil pipeline

15:35 - 7.10.2020

October 7, Fineko/abc.az. On 6 October, at about 18:30 on local time, the Armenian armed forces, using the Smerch 9m525 multiple launch rocket system with high destructive power and containing 300 9N235 shells, opened fire in the direction of Aran village in Yevlakh district of Azerbaijan on demilitarized zones (including non-military targets that were clearly visible and distinguishable, and on pipelines exporting oil and condensate) that were not involved in fighting and located at least 50 km from the zone military action. As a result of the neutralization of those missiles by the Azerbaijani armed forces, some of the shells contained in them were scattered on the territory of the extended South Caucasus pipeline, other ones 120 m from the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline, and another one 100 m from the BTC oil pipeline.

Thus, an attempt was made to deliberately destroy infrastructure and, in particular, property on a particularly large scale, by creating dangerous conditions for pipelines exporting crude oil and condensate with a large capacity, the destruction of which can lead to significant property damage.

ABC.AZ was informed at the Prosecutor General's Office that the Armenians planned and waged an aggressive war against Azerbaijan and committed a terrorist crime. The Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan initiated a criminal case in connection with these criminal facts, and the investigation was entrusted to the PGO Investigation Department.
