November 6, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan is likely to introduce an alternative tax regime for lottery and bookmaker organizers.

Nijat Imanov, Head of the Main Department of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy, says that it will be one of the important innovations.

"This is a special approach that differs from the general tax rules and is widely used in international practice. The amount remaining after deducting the prize fund from the turnover will be taxed. This mechanism provides for the application of a rate of 22%.

The main goal is to prevent citizens from spending money through participation in illegal bookmaking games organized both domestically and abroad. At the same time, the task is to limit the activities of illegal gambling sites and expand the possibilities of the legal market," Imanov noted.

He added that operators will be allowed to channel most of their income into the prize pool, which will increase winnings and increase the attractiveness of legal games.

"As a result, it is supposed to prevent citizens from transferring funds to illegal betting structures and ensure the application of an alternative tax regime for taxpayers," Imanov emphasized.
