October 15, Fineko/abc.az. On October 15, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Baku. The leaders expressed satisfaction with the development of strategic partnership and highlighted the successful hosting of the 7th CICA Summit in the Azerbaijani capital.
Following their meeting, the heads of state officially inaugurated the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line via an online ceremony.
Spanning 380 km across the seabed between Sumqayit and Aktau as part of the "Digital Silk Way" initiative, the line boasts a bandwidth capacity exceeding 400 Terabits per second. The new route enables data transmission from China and Central Asia to Europe via Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and further through the Black Sea or Türkiye, greatly boosting the digital strategic value of the Middle Corridor. Additionally, the line creates new opportunities for developing AI data centers, cloud services, and high-tech sectors in the region.
During the event, the sides also exchanged a cooperation agreement on Middle Corridor development and certified the acquisition of two dry cargo vessels by AZCON holding.
