US Bond Buyback Plan Weighs on Dollar as Investors Seek Alternatives

August 20, Fineko/abc.az. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's decision to more than double planned buybacks of long-term government bonds has triggered a wave of dollar selling. Market analysts suggest that interventionist policies aimed at curbing borrowing costs are undermining confidence in the greenback and driving capital toward alternative currencies.

Following the announcement, the Bloomberg Dollar Index dropped to a three-month low. Investors reacted by shifting positions toward the euro, British pound, Swiss franc, and New Zealand dollar. Experts note that US policymakers appear willing to tolerate a weaker dollar in order to keep bond yields under control.
