August 20, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. Treasury’s move to double its buybacks of long-dated government bonds to rein in borrowing costs sent a wave of relief across global financial markets. The yield on 30-year U.S. Treasuries retreated by 10 basis points to 5.18%, while the U.S. dollar slumped to a three-month low.
Cryptocurrencies gained momentum, led by Bitcoin, after President Donald Trump hosted crypto industry executives at the White House to push Congress for crypto legislation. Asian equities responded strongly, with the MSCI Asia Pacific Index surging 1.6% and South Korea's Kospi jumping 5.6%, powered by massive rallies in SK Hynix (+13%) and Samsung (+8%).
Commodities maintained their upward trajectory as gold held firm near $4,500 per ounce. Meanwhile, Brent crude edged toward $92 per barrel, marking its fifth consecutive session of gains following fresh U.S. economic measures against Iran.
