Swiss Economy Surges: GDP Growth Reaches 1.5%

13:07 - 15.08.2026

August 15, Fineko/abc.az. The Swiss economy expanded at its fastest pace since 2021 in the second quarter of the year, demonstrating resilience against elevated energy costs and global trade uncertainties.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 1.5% in the April–June period compared to the previous quarter, significantly outperforming the consensus forecast of 0.3%. The industrial expansion was primarily driven by the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors, alongside steady growth in services, including hospitality and finance. Lower reliance on fossil fuels enabled Switzerland to mitigate global energy shocks effectively. Meanwhile, the manufacturing sector maintained its recovery trajectory, with the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) remaining in expansion territory since March.
