Azerbaijani Banking System to Achieve Full Basel III Compliance by 2027 — Moody's

10:57 - 8.08.2026

August 8, Fineko/abc.az. International rating agency Moody's Ratings views the ongoing strengthening of banking regulation across Central Asia and the South Caucasus, including Azerbaijan, as a credit-positive development for the sector.

According to the agency, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan is actively deploying risk-based supervision guidelines and expanding capital buffer mandates. New capital requirements under the Basel III framework have already been introduced, with full compliance across the country's banking sector anticipated by January 1, 2027.

Moody's analysts note that regulatory tightening and structural oversight reforms will continue to underpin the standalone credit profiles, risk management standards, and governance of Azerbaijani banks over the long term.
