According to the State Administration of Currency Control of the People's Republic of China (SAFE), the country's official gold reserves increased by 640,000 ounces at the end of July 2026 compared to the previous month, reaching a total of 76.08 million ounces(roughly 2,366 metric tons).
Thus, the volume of gold purchases by China in July totaled nearly 19.91 metric tons, the highest monthly figure since October 2023.
In June, the People's Bank of China also replenished its reserves by 480,000 ounces (roughly 15 tons). Taking into account the July increase, China's overall official gold reserves rose to approx. 2,366 tons, continuing the buying trend for the 21st month in a row.
