China Launches National Security Probe into Imported Office Equipment

22:05 - 5.08.2026

August 5, Fineko/abc.az. China's Ministry of Commerce has announced a national security investigation into imported office equipment featuring printing and copying functions that rely on foreign-developed system software. This marks China’s first-ever foreign trade national security probe.

According to preliminary assessments by the Ministry, imported printing and copying devices installed with foreign system software may impact national security interests in foreign trade. The investigation will evaluate the volume of imports, reliance on foreign technologies, the capabilities of domestic industries to meet national security needs, and the impact of policies implemented by foreign governments.

The inquiry is expected to be completed within 12 months, after which the Commerce Ministry will release a formal investigation report and determination.
