June 18, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has solidified its position as a vital cornerstone on the global energy stage, operating as the primary initiator and implementer of large-scale cross-border energy infrastructure projects.

According to ABC.AZ, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group. The Head of State noted that Baku has successfully completed critical transit mechanisms across Eurasia, effectively securing the energy architecture for nations in need of supply stability.

Geographical Expansion in Gas Exports: Commenting on the expanding blue fuel landscape, President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s dominant position in routing diversification: "Today, we supply natural gas to 16 countries; this figure is rising day by day, and it will steadily continue to increase."

A Highly Diversified Global Agenda: The President emphasized that Azerbaijan's geostrategic footprint stretches well beyond downstream energy dynamics. Tracing the momentum back to the landmark 2010 IsDB Annual Meeting in Baku, the nation has evolved into a premier destination for global conventions. President Aliyev underscored the exceptional structural outcomes of the COP29 summit hosted in 2024, alongside the World Urban Forum successfully organized in Baku just last month (May 2026), as clear testaments to the country's multifaceted international action plan.
