June 11, Fineko/abc.az. Wholesale margins for premium-grade motor fuels across the Russian energy market experienced a sharp upward trajectory today, with benchmark AI-95 gasoline spot prices closing within striking distance of historical records.
According to ABC.AZ, citing operational trading summaries from the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX), during the June 11 session, the price of AI-95 benchmark surged by 2.28% to close at 81.6 thousand rubles (approximately $896) per metric ton.
The current price level runs remarkably parallel to the absolute peak observed in September of last year, when local supply constraints pushed wholesale values to an all-time high of 82,382 rubles (approximately $905) per ton.
Market intelligence and industry desks attribute the current pricing pressure to compounding supply-demand imbalances:
Peak Travel Track: The structural onset of the summer holiday cycle, which has substantially accelerated domestic retail fuel consumption patterns;
Refinery Outages: Concurrent scheduled and conditional maintenance turnarounds across domestic oil refineries (Refiners), which have temporarily thinned out trading volumes available on the exchange floor.
