April 17, Fineko/abc.az. Opening of the Aghdam-Khankendi railway line is scheduled for 2027, ABC.AZ informs, quoting Arif Aghayev, deputy chairman at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.
"At the beginning of 2025, the Baku-Balakyan-Baku railway routes were restored, in June - Baku-Gazakh-Baku route, in August - Baku-Aghdam-Baku route. In addition, the Ganja-Gabala-Ganja line was put into operation. It is planned to open both the Aghdam-Khankendi railway and the Khankendi railway and bus terminal complex next year," Agayev said.
He added that the volume of passenger traffic by rail increased significantly in 2025.
"As a result of the measures taken, in 2025, ADY reached a record high, carrying more than 10 million passengers, which once again demonstrates the importance we attach to improving the quality of service and customer satisfaction," he emphasized.
The length of the Aghdam-Khankendi railway will be 28 km, and taking into account the side tracks - 30.8 km. The project provides for the construction of three stations - Askeran, Khojaly, as well as a railway and bus terminal complex in Khankendi. 123 engineering structures, 28 km of communication and alarm systems will also be created.
