July 9, Fineko/abc.az. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) and state corporation Chinese Railways (KZHD) have signed an agreement on comprehensive strategic cooperation.
ABC.AZ reports that the document was signed during the official meeting of Talgat Aldybergenov, chairman of board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, with Guo Zhuxue, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Railways.
The parties agreed to promote the development of international Eurasian routes, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), improve infrastructure connectivity, as well as implement joint investment projects such as modernization and construction of railways, logistics facilities and multimodal terminals.
"Special attention is paid to expansion of container transportation and introduction of modern digital solutions in international rail transport," it is reported.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Turkey and European countries.
In 2024, the cargo transportation by TITR increased by 62%, reaching 4.5 million tons. In 2025, a further increase is expected to 5.2 million tons, of which 4.2 million tons will pass through the participating countries of the route. Of this volume, 2.5 million tons will be dry cargo (equivalent to 96,000 TEU), and 1.7 million tons will be oil.
The capacity of the route may reach 10 million tons a year by 2027, which will create a stable base for expanding Azerbaijan's transit potential and attracting additional investments in infrastructure.
