July 2, Fineko/abc.az. Uzbekistan is interested in using Karabakh's agricultural lands as a promising area for deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan in the agro-industrial sector.

ABC.AZ reports that Davron Vakhabov, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Uzbekistan, made the above-said statement on the sidelines of the 6th ECO Business Forum in Shusha.

"There is fertile land here [in Karabakh], and in this case there will be interest from both sides - both Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. In addition, logistical costs will be reduced. Now we have exports through Azerbaijan to Europe, but import volumes are low. This increases the cost of imported goods. If we achieve balanced turnover, entrepreneurs will reduce logistics costs, which will have positive impact on the cost of production," he added.

Vakhabov noted that the Azerbaijani leadership is interested in joint initiatives in this area.

"We talked with the KOBIA management and suggested: let's bring large farmers - experienced, competent ones - separately to implement a joint project here. For example, on parity terms: 50-50. Uzbekistan will invest, and Uzbekistan will be guaranteed to buy products that can be grown here, which we lack," he said.
