EU to be able to increase imports of American LNG because of tariffs

April 10, Fineko/abc.az. The European Union is considering increasing purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States in response to tariff pressure from President Donald Trump.

ABC.AZ reports, referring to the Financial Times, that according to European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen, such an increase will be acceptable only if EU environmental standards are met.

In 2024, the U.S. already accounted for 45% of LNG supplies to the EU, which corresponds to about $13 billion, the Financial Times recalls.

Trump has proposed that the bloc purchase $350 billion worth of energy supplies, demanding more significant steps, while rejecting an agreement on zero tariffs on industrial products. The EU, in turn, strives to ensure predictability for investors, especially against the background of global economic instability.
