April 1, Fineko/abc.az. Drought-resistant grape variety Calardis Blanc, developed by the German Geilweilerhof Grape Breeding Institute, will be planted in Azerbaijan, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Vugar Salimov, the director of the Scientific Research Institute of Viticulture & Winemaking of the Ministry of Agriculture.
He added that on a contractual basis, 100 units of rootstock seedlings (CO4 rootstock) from the Calardis Blanc grape variety were sent to Shemakha district to study and test adaptive, including resistant to diseases and pests, drought, high temperatures and other poor growing conditions: "Under the poor conditions of Shemakha, development features will be studied, the sustainability, yield, quality and adaptability of the Calardis Blanc grape variety and its ecological flexibility and sustainability will be evaluated. If a high result is obtained, the variety will be recommended for use in farms.
Calardis Blanc was obtained as a result of hybridization of Calardis Musque and Seyve Villard varieties. It is a stable technical grape variety with white clusters, medium yield and good quality. It matures in the middle period. The variety is a valuable raw material for the production of table and champagne wines. The variety demonstrates high resistance to mildiu, oidium, gray rot, and black rot diseases, and reduces the use of fungicides by up to 80% Calardis Blanc was obtained as a result of hybridization of Calardis Musque and Seyve Villard varieties. It is a stable technical grape variety with white clusters, medium yield."
