February 26, Fineko/abc.az. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani discussed the importance of reopening the oil pipeline between Iraq and Türkiye, according to the US State Department's statement.
"They agreed on the importance of achieving Iraq's energy independence, the early launch of the Iraq-Türkiye pipeline, and the fulfillment of the contractual terms by US companies operating in Iraq," the statement read.
Earlier, Baghdad announced its readiness to resume the export of oil produced in Iraqi Kurdistan to Türkiye via the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline.
Oil transportation via the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline was suspended in March 2023 after Baghdad won a case against Türkiye in the international court regarding the export of oil from the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, which had been ongoing since 2014.
Baghdad's main claim was that the Turkish BOTAS Petroleum Pipeline Corporation was exporting oil produced in Iraqi Kurdistan to the world market without the official permission and consent of the Iraqi government.
