May 7, Fineko/abc.az. The commissioning of Giz Galasi hydroelectric complex on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border will take place in the coming days, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Yousef Ghaffarzadeh, the director general of the Regional Water Company of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan.
"The construction of the hydroelectric power plant, which is the most important project in the north-west of the country, has been completed and the grand opening of this facility will take place in the coming days," he said.
He noted that in addition to irrigation and the rapid development of agriculture, the operation of the Giz Galasy hydroelectric complex will lead to economic growth of the region, improve the quality of agricultural products and development of tourism.
The project envisages construction of two hydroelectric power plants ‘Khudaferin’ with installed capacity of 100 MW and ‘Giz Galasi’ - 40 MW.
This project will allow Azerbaijan alone to generate 358 million kWh of electricity per year, improve irrigation of 252,000 hectares of existing and establish irrigation of 12,000 hectares of new arable land.
