Kazakhstan increases oil transportation from Aktau port to Azerbaijan

February 9, Fineko/abc.az. In January, oil transportation towards the port of Baku from the port of Aktau grew by 60,000 tons, up to 116,000 tons.

ABC.AZ reports that in January the total transportation of Kazakh oil from the port of Aktau for export reached 287,000 tons, 76,000 tons more versus the same period of 2023. Most of this growth is ensured by supplies to Azerbaijan.

In the direction of the port of Makhachkala, 171,000 tons of Kazakh oil were shipped from the port of Aktau, which is 17,000 tons more than in January 2023, the company explained.

In 2022, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev tasked to increase oil transportation along the Trans-Caspian corridor. In accordance with this instruction, KazMunayGas and SOCAR have concluded an agreement envisaging transportation of 1.5 million tons of oil a year from Tengiz field in direction of the BTC oil pipeline.

Earlier, the government's press service reported that the oil industry continues to implement large expansion projects at the Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kashagan fields. The capacity of the Kazakhstan section of the CPC pipeline has increased from 54 million to 72.5 million tons per year. At that, the first oil supplies were made via the Trans-Caspian route, which will be increased to 3 million tons within two years.
