January 17, Fineko/abc.az. UK’s oil & gas company Shell has decided to suspend all shipments through the Red Sea for an indefinite period, ABC.AZ reports, referring to newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
Last month, a Shell-chartered tanker was attacked by a drone and harassed by the Houthis in the Red Sea. Last week, the company decided to stop all transit traffic out of concern that subsequent attacks could lead to a large-scale oil spill in the region and jeopardize the safety of ship crews.
Shell declined to comment.
According to estimates by the Central Command of the US Armed Forces, since mid-November 2023, the Houthis have attacked more than 20 civilian ships in the Red Sea.
